Introduction

Komatsu has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Shipping controller with 1-2 years experience in imports/ exports operations to join our shipping department in Germiston.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Import Coordination:
    • Liaise with international suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents to manage inbound shipments.
    • Track and monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery and resolve delays.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    • Prepare and verify import documentation (e.g., bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists).
    • Ensure compliance with customs regulations and import laws.
  • Inventory & Logistics Support:
    • Update internal systems with shipment status and expected delivery dates.
    • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams for offloading and storage planning.
  • Cost Management:
    • Assist in reviewing freight and customs charges for accuracy.
    • Support cost-saving initiatives in shipping and logistics.
  • Reporting & Communication:
    • Maintain accurate records of all import transactions.
    • Provide regular updates to procurement and operations teams.

Desired Experience & Qualification

 

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related field.

 

Experience:

  • 1–2 years in import/export operations, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with Incoterms, customs procedures, and international shipping documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

 

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with importing large machinery or industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of HS codes and tariff classifications.
  • Exposure to African or global shipping routes and regulations.
